Over View The 3 Series is the bedrock of BMW's success in the UK market, a compact executive car that offers superb rear-wheel drive handling, first rate engineering, restrained style and the enduring prestige of the blue-and-white badge. The fifth generation range, introduced with saloon models in March 2005, does nothing to upset this successful recipe. Improved engine performance should ensure it remains a strong top-10 seller. The Touring estate version gives considerably more load space than its predecessor.
	Performance and Economy Following the 3 Series's launch in spring 2005, the engine range has grown to offer 10 choices - five petrol and five diesel - giving a huge, but potentially bewildering choice. On the petrol side the entry level units are both two-litre four-cylinder units, badged 318 and 320i. The lesser, 129hp unit gives 38.7mpg (combined and 0-62mph in 10 seconds; the 150hp unit has more torque and cuts the acceleration benchmark figure by a full second, with only marginal loss in mpg and emissions. Then come the six-cylinder units, starting with the 2.5-litre in the 325i (218hp, 33.6mpg and 7 seconds) and the 258hp three-litre in the 330i (32.5mpg and 6.3 seconds). For the latest in performance and technology, the twin-turbo three-litre in the 335i packs a huge punch: its 306hp gives 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds. The diesel units offer a similar range of performance and, like the petrols, start with two 2.0-litre four-cylinder units (respectively 122 and 163hp, 49.6 and 44.1mpg and 0-62mph in 8.3 and 7.4 seconds. The six-cylinder engines start with the 197 325d (44.1mpg, 7.4 seconds) and move on to the 231hp 33d (43.5mpg, 6.7 seconds). BMW's most powerful diesel yet in the UK is the twin-turbo 286hp 335d, giving 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and 37.7mpg. Automatic transmissions are available in all petrol models and the 320d and 33d models. The 318d and 325d are manual only and the 335d is offered exclusively with auto.
Safety and Security A fundamental element of the new 3 Series's safety performance is its stronger and more rigid construction, designed to help the car meet tougher side and rear end impact testing in the USA. All models feature six airbags as standard, incuding head airbags front and back. The 3 Series goes beyond ABS and EBD with brakes engineered to anticipate sudden braking and to keep dry when driving in wet conditions. DSC stability control systems are also fitted. In a first for the segment, the rear lights illuminate in stages of intensity to signal when the driver is braking sharply. M sport models gain traction control. An alarm, immobiliser and remote central locking are standard on all versions.
Equipment ES grade is the entry point to the 3 Series, offering 16-inch light alloy wheels, front fog lights, electric heated door mirrors and washer jets, electric windows, manual air conditioning, lether trimmed steering wheel and manual steering column adjustment. The SE grade addsd cruise control, rear parking sensors, automatic aircon, an auto-dipping rear-view mirror and a multi-function steering wheel. The M Sport package includes sports seats and suspension, traction control and aerodynamic body styling elements.	Costs Prices: On-the-road prices for the 3 Series start at £20,705 for the 318i ES and rise to £36,100 for the 335d M Sport. VED and Insurance: The 318d is in band C for Vehicle Excise Duty. The 320d is in band D (band E auto); the 318i, 320i and 330d are in band E (band F 320i auto; and the 325i and 330i in band F. Insurance groups ar 12 to 18 across the range. Carbon dioxide emissions: The 318d emits 150g/km, the 320d 153g/km (179 auto), the 330d 174g/km, the 318i 175g/km, the 320i 178g/km (190) and the 330i 210g/km (216).

With this VAT beneficial financing package, one regular rental payment covers all risks including costs of depreciation and disposal for an agreed period of time and mileage. Road fund licence is included with contract hire, but roadside rescue, maintenance and relief vehicle provisions are options that can be added with contract hire and charged to the rental payment.

Finance Lease
Finance Lease is Ideal for VAT registered companies who want to handle the administration of their vehicles, and have the asset shown on their balance sheet. A VAT beneficial option where the hirer can choose to pay the entire cost over the agreed lease period, plus an interest charge, or pay lower monthly rentals during the lease period with a final payment based on the anticipated resale value of the vehicle.
